Supply and Fit Oak Floor Taunton Case Study
Project Brief
On this recent project we had the privilege to supply and fit this beautiful premium engineered golden oak floor – one of our favourite products.
The installation covered a large entrance hall and extended into two additional rooms, with a total floor area of 26 square meters. The project included careful preparation and attention to flow, ensuring a seamless finish across multiple spaces.
Here’s a detailed look at how we approached this supply and fit oak floor Taunton installation to achieve a high-quality result.
Client Expectations
The client aimed for a cohesive look that blended seamlessly with existing woodwork, including the hallway banisters and trim. To achieve this, we followed a structured process, focusing on both aesthetics and technical precision to ensure the highest quality outcome.
Project Objectives
The primary objective of this project was to supply and fit oak flooring that matched the existing wood elements within the client’s entrance hall. Additionally, we sought to ensure that the flooring flowed smoothly between connected areas without door bars, preserving a continuous, clean look.
Key project elements included:
- Wood Selection and Customization: James visited our client with a variety of different oak floor samples so a colour could be chosen to match the banisters and other woodwork. So, we found that the engineered golden oak was the closest match.
- Acclimatization: James personally delivered the flooring in advance, allowing it to acclimatize in our client’s home. Acclimatizing wood is essential to prevent warping or shifting once installed, as wood responds to humidity and temperature changes.
- Preparation: James also prepped the installation area by undercutting all the skirting boards and door frames. This early preparation allowed us to fit the oak flooring underneath for a cleaner, more professional appearance without visible gaps. Proper preparation of the site is essential in any supply and fit oak floor project, especially when aiming for seamless transitions between rooms.
- Fully Bonded Installation: Each plank was fully adhered to the concrete subfloor.
- Seamless Transitions: Ensured no transition bars between rooms, achieving a smooth visual flow.
- High-Quality Finishing: We incorporated additional detailing, including custom trim around an entrance mat, carefully colour-matched to the flooring.
Installation Process: Day 1
The installation began with a focus on the entrance hall, strategically laying the first rows to create a natural flow toward the living room and adjacent rooms.
- Gluing the First Rows: Starting at the entrance, we carefully glued down the first few rows, ensuring they aligned with the rest of the space. The start of any installation is very important to get right as it sets the visual flow for the entire installation.
- Seamless Transitions: Since the flooring extended across three rooms without door bars, we meticulously planned the layout to maintain a continuous look, considering all 5 different transition areas going into other rooms including the entrance door matt. Each plank was micro-bevelled, enabling a tight join with adjacent planks, reducing visible seams.
- Staggered Planks: One of the main considerations when fitting a wood floor is that the boards being random length stagger nicely on the floor, achieving a more natural appearance. By the end of the day, we had covered a significant portion of the hall, we fitted around the base of stairs, into a bathroom and cut out the floor mat, ensuring all transitions were correctly aligned – a good day in anyone’s book.
Installation Process: Day 2
On the second day, we continued into the study, and all other finishing touches on all transition areas.
- Trim and Transition Customization: We installed a trim around the entrance mat, allowing the mat to sit flush with the floor for a sleek finish. Transitions to other rooms were cut in straight lines and carefully coloured, maintaining consistency with the oak’s tone.
- Door Adjustments: Each door opening was tested to ensure smooth movement over the new flooring. Where necessary, we made minor adjustments to the doors, preserving functionality without compromising aesthetics.
- Finishing Touches: Every plank was inspected to ensure a secure, full bond to the subfloor. We filled any minor gaps with matching silicone, especially around the staircase and steps, for a uniform appearance. Matching trims were also added at transition points, cut to fit and lacquered for durability.
Final Cleaning and Inspection
Once the installation was complete, we undertook a thorough cleaning, vacuuming the floor to remove any dust or adhesive residue. Ensuring a pristine presentation, we loaded all tools and equipment back into our vans, giving the client an unblemished view of their new oak flooring.
A final walk-through allowed the client to inspect every detail, from the tightness of the bevelled planks to the seamless flow between rooms. We addressed any last-minute concerns, ensuring that each transition, door adjustment, and trim piece was perfect. This commitment to detail is essential in any supply and fit oak floor project, especially in high-traffic areas like an entrance hall.
Project Outcome and Client Satisfaction
Our client was very pleased with the result, particularly appreciating the attention to detail and the high-quality finish achieved within a tight two-day timeframe. The project demonstrated how a well-planned approach to supplying and fitting oak floors can transform a space, offering both elegance and functionality. The golden oak’s natural warmth and cohesive installation added a refined, inviting touch to the entrance hall and surrounding rooms.
In summary, this case study highlights the critical steps and meticulous attention to detail required in a successful supply and fit oak floor project. From wood selection and pre-installation preparation to thoughtful layout planning and finishing touches, every phase was executed with precision. This level of craftsmanship is what sets a professionally installed wood floor apart, providing lasting beauty and value for our client.
