Initial Sanding
We began by sanding the entire floor using 40-grit sandpaper. The initial sanding was performed slowly to ensure we removed the deeper scrapes and scratches. During this process, we noticed strong odors as the trapped contaminants in the wood, such as urine stains, were released. Final Sanding and Preparation
After all the initial preparation and sanding was completed, we conducted a final pass with a flexisander to smooth out any remaining imperfections. This final pass ensured that the entire floor was evenly sanded and ready for sealing. Given the nature of our client’s business, it was important to provide a finish that would protect the wood from future spills and stains.
Application of Barrier Seal Primer and Lacquer
To enhance the durability of the floor, we applied a thick coat of barrier seal primer. This primer is specifically designed to prevent future spillages from penetrating the wood grain, providing an essential layer of protection for a pet-friendly environment.
Once the primer was applied and had dried, we proceeded with three coats of matt lacquer. The matt finish was chosen for its natural appearance and ability to reduce glare, while also being easier to maintain.
To further enhance the safety of the flooring, we added an anti-slip additive to the final coat of lacquer. This was especially important as the flooring led into wet rooms, where additional traction was needed.
